This page is made up of a;
- Planning section - where the ideas are expanded and a
- Tasks section - where tasks are set up for people to do.
Planning
Split into different ideas that are expanded from the brainstorm
School-NCEA
- Look into different credits
- Science pathways
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Biology - Already many schools do a science project with NCEA standards involved.
- Technology pathways
- Maybe set up some project pathways that schools can use.
- Project pathways could be used to
- Do worksheets that teachers can use
New-Graphics
- Conor starting to redo the main graphics putting together a new simplified design.
- Graphics to be done
- Headers
- Logos for the different pages
New-Website
- New layout - The old layout had a competition page and a news page and was used mainly to move people through to the wiki where the resources are. What could it be used for?
- Just bought a new hosting on openhost an NZ company and am waiting for the domain to be transferred over.
- I have changed to run with wordpress as it is similar to pbworks. If you email me on nzjakemartin@gmail.com then I will be able to email you the url and the password to start editing the website.
Review-Wiki
Have a look
- What do people think about the steps? How could the steps be improved?
- The forum has been taken off.
Blog
Anyone keen to do a blog entry a bit about the project you did and what you got out of it.
Interactive Content
Idea is to add interactive content maybe with quizzes. Heather says....... I shall investigate this further in the near future I think. Jake says .... I think doing those gif animations is good or maybe even get some youtube videos on the site. I saw a cool thing on a website where the text was white and so you had to highlight it to see what was under it simple way to make it interactive maybe.
- You can embed in HTML into the site so maybe someone could look into that.
- Could have an interactive add in for teaching the scientific method see link
- Hayley created page called "Test yourself!" which we can put the websites on.
- You could add widgets that add interactive content these can be easily added under the insert menu in the edit bar.
Tasks
Split into sections same as in planning and has task that people can put their name next to if they want to do the task. When the task is complex it can be crossed out.
Pathways
- Teacher handouts for students doing projects in technology, physics, bio and chemistry for different year levels So for L1, L2, and L3 NCEA. Just pdf documents that have check boxes of things to do could be based on the steps in the wiki or a rehashed version of the steps. Don't need places to fill them in as this can be done on separte paper.
- Just thinking about the whole process and the people that really need to get to the information about NCEA are teachers so what I am suggesting is a new page called Pathways it could contain 3 pathways for integrating science and technology projects with NCEA a yr 7-10 pathway, an NCEA L1, L2 and L3 pathways. It would contain
- Credits for different years.
- Handouts
- Checklist of things to do to meet the science and technology fair and the credits for that year.
- Discussion about marking and meeting the NCEA standards.(Done by teachers).
- Human and animal ethics.
- I have just added in the pages
New-Graphics
- Do new banner for wiki (Conor)
- Banners for the webiste.
Steps
- The steps will be separated from the credits and the standards. So Instead of having splitting off to many different pages we will have the split only to science and technology
Website
- You can now edit the website in a similar way that you can edit with pbworks with an online editor. So feel free to log in on the page projects.org.nz/wordpress and I will check that I know you and you can start adding content to the website from right within your browser.(Jake)All of the resources will still be on the wiki but the website will link through to them and give use a nice looking face before people get into the great resources we have on the wiki as using the URL projects.org.nz is easy to find
- Pages planned for the website
- News
- This will be a blog where the news about science and technology fairs will be put. Also blogs by people who have done projects about what they are up to.
- Steps
- Student resources for science and technology projects
- Competitions
- Realise the Dream and I have a list of local science fairs and everything.
- Pathways
- Links with wiki pages for teachers resources on pathways to integrate projects into NCEA.
Facebook
- (Jake) Added a Facebook page for the group.
Mentoring
- Added a mentoring form to help students get connected with researchers or groups they are interested in. This will allow for forwarding of the information to organisations such as CREST or brightsparks or research labs.
- Started a google folder called student hub where interactive logbooks are placed to allow students to add in information and mentors to help. This will be where students can be directed after they have submitted the mentoring form. There is also a science project planning sheet that students and mentors can work on together to help students to make sure they plan out their time in particular.
